Ballyholland retain Down GAA Division 1 Féile Peil na nÓg title after defeating Kilcoo 4-2 to 1-1 in the final which was played on Easter Monday in St Colman's College, Newry. At the semi-final stages Ballyholland overcame Carryduff 3-2 to 0-1 while Kilcoo defeated Burren 2-02 to 1-01.
In the Division 2 final at the Abbey CBS, Newry last year’s beaten finalists Newry Shamrocks overcame Saval 1-2 to 0-0, while in the Division 3 final Annaclone saw off Burren B 1-3 to 0-1.
In total 21 teams took part, in the Down GAA Football Féile competition which saw 44 games, over 700 minutes of football being played on Easter Monday at Abbey CBS and St Colman’s College Newry, involving over 400 U14 footballers from throughout County Down. The competition was split into 3 sections with Ballyholland, Bredagh, Kilcoo, Clonduff, Carryduff, Mayobridge, Burren and Bryansford all taking part in Section A. Warrenpoint, An Ríocht, Longstone, Saval, Shamrocks, and Rostrevor all taking part in Section B with Annaclone, Aughlisnafin, Bredagh "B", Atticall, Burren "B", and Drumgath in Section C.
This year all three Down Féile Peil na nÓg winners go through to the All-Ireland National GAA Féile Peil na nÓg Tournament which is being hosted in the Southwest (Kerry, North Cork and West Limerick) on the weekend of the 24th June.
Ballyholland will represent Down in Division 1 Group C of the All Ireland along with the Derry Champions and Cork sides Douglas and Scarra GAA. Douglas GAA Club will host Ballyholland.
Newry Shamrocks who were also at last years All Ireland Féile weekend will be hosted by Limerick Club St Kierans GAA. They will represent Down in Division 5 of the All Ireland.
Section C winners Annaclone will travel to Kerry to play in Division 10 and will be hosted by Asdee / Ballylongford.
Down GAA County Board and Down GAA Bord na Óg would like to thank all the teams and mentors who took part in the Tournament in what proved to be a great days festival of football, full of skill and played in a very sporting manner throughout. Thanks to the two venues for facilitating the competition St Colman’s College and the Abbey CBS, Newry, and to all the referees and officials who officiated throughout the day.
